Backflow prevention is critical to the health and wellbeing of our society. Access to clean drinking water is the biggest health issue in the world. Thanks to legislation and plumbers, it’s not something you generally need to worry about. We install critical valves that prevent backflow and keep our water clean.
We use large 100mm RPZD valves on commercial properties and Industrial sites. And smaller RPZD and Double Check valves on medical centres, school’s science labs, sporting clubs and even at home if you have a below ground tank or pool that is connected to potable water.
It’s one thing to install a backflow valve but did you know that it is a legal requirement for RPZD and Double Check valves to be tested annually by a licensed tester?
Brigham Plumbing is licensed to test and repair backflow valves. We have tested many valves over the years on sites such as AgiBio in Bundoora, The Baker Institute in Melbourne, Darul Ulum College in Fawkner and many other medical centres, car washes, city councils and sporting clubs.
Once we have tested your valve as per your legal requirement, you are issued with a certificate. If the valve fails the test we can repair the valve or even replace it if needed.
Thermostatic mixing valves or TMVs are devices that are installed to protect the community from being scalded by hot water or even going into shock from cold water as some patients can in medical or care facilities.
It is a legal requirement to have all TMVs tested annually. We are fully accredited to test and service TMVs. TMVs mix the hot and cold water together before it comes out of the tap so it is delivered to the user at a warm temperature that is not dangerous. We have tested hundreds of valves over the years on commercial and domestic sites.
We can also test and inspect your Tempering Valve at home. All domestic ablution points at your home, i.e. basins, showers and baths must have water delivered to the tap at 50 degrees to prevent scalding. It is a legal requirement to replace your tempering valve every five years. If your hot water unit at home is a storage type then it has to be stored at 70 degrees but delivered to the tap via a tempering valve at 50 degrees. It takes one second to receive a major burn from hot water that is 68 degrees.
